A Few Steps to Get Your children To Clean Their Room
Most parents have had the battle of a child’s messy bedroom. This does not need to be such a battle. You can give your children the gentle encouragement they need to start cleaning up after themselves.
1. Do not yell at your child or start giving them punishments for a messy room. There are worse things than an untidy bedroom. You can take a calm approach to getting your kids to clean their room. Start by simply asking them to clean their room. You might even offer to pitch in and help (as long as you make it clear that they will be doing an equal amount of work).
2. Go ahead and explain to your children the importance of keeping a neat room and cleaning up after themselves. Let young children know that it is important to pick up their toys so that no one trips on them and gets hurt. Explain to your kids that you do not want their favorite toy to get lost as a result of being untidy. If you give children valid reason for cleaning rather than just demanding for them to do so, you will probably get better results.
3. Do not be a slob yourself and expect your children to have a neat room. If your room is a mess, your children will probably have a mess too. If you never pick up after yourself, it will be difficult for your children to learn to do so. If you are clean and neat, your children are more likely to copy that.
4. Give your children some words of thanks and praise when they get their room clean. If you notice that they are making an honest effort to be cleaning and to keep their toys put way, let them know how proud you are of them. A little praise can go a long way.
